On Sunday, Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark got one step closer to breaking the WNBA record for assists in a rookie season.
Clark reached 194 assists on the season during her team’s 81-74 road win against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, officially passing Sue Bird on the list for assists in a rookie season.
Ticha Penicheiro still holds the record from her 1998 rookie season with the former Sacramento Monarchs with 225 assists, but Clark may well pass that mark by the time the regular season ends in September.
When asked about getting closer to breaking the rookie assists record and what it meant to do it in Minnesota, where she traveled for college games with Iowa, Clark didn’t seem phased about it either way.
“Not really,” Clark said on if the moment was more sentimental happening in Minneapolis, per Clutch Points’ Matthew Byrne. “Probably something I won’t remember. I don’t know, it’s cool. Yep.”
