Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the president-designate of the upcoming UN climate change conference, received on Thursday a phone call from the United States Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry.
Shoukry told Kerry his country is looking forward to high-level US participation in the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022, which will be held in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh in November.
The officials discussed bilateral coordination in climate change and other issues related to international climate action.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said Shoukry hailed the ongoing cooperation between the two countries over climate, clean energy and the green transition.
He reviewed the outcome of the FM's visit to the German city of Bonn earlier this month where he held talks with a number of international officials, groups and parties concerned with climate action.
The meetings were held as part of the 56th sessions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA).
Shoukry stressed that Cairo prioritizes climate change and efforts to ease its impact in Africa.
