Caddies aren't just the equipment carriers to golfers. They also act as eyes and ears for golfers, providing them strategic advice about the course, reading the greens and obstacles and the conditions while the golfers concentrate on their game. Basically, they are the trusted advisors and motivators to the golfers on the course.
With their regular caddies missing, it was no surprise to see the Indians, as well as golfers from other nations, struggling for form and guidance during the golf event at the Asian Games here. The organisers didn't allow golfers to be accompanied by their caddies on the course at the West Lake International Golf Course. Instead, they were asked to mandatorily avail the services of local caddies, many of them not knowing English.
