The Great British Bake Off returned to our screens on Tuesday, September 13, as fans got ready to peep inside the famous tent to see what this year's bakers had in store for us. However, it didn't take long for viewers to spot an 'unexpected' ingredient during the technical challenge.
The technical challenge usually proves to be the most difficult for the contestants and the first one of the series saw bakers tasked with making a red velvet cake. Readers should be aware that a spoiler is coming up.
Judged blind, bakers are all given the same recipe for the technical challenge, although this is usually very vague. One ingredient though has left some viewer 'disgusted', according to Birmingham Live.

Baker Syabira won the technical challenge and was moved to tears by her achievement. Sandro came in second place and left fans flustered as they demanded that Sandro be given his own rom-com movie.
The Channel 4 show revealed that a key ingredient for red velvet cake is vinegar. While this isn't a typical cake ingredient it is used in some red velvet recipes to preserve the colour and lighten the mix. However, some viewers were left disgusted by the revelation and took to Twitter to share their surprise.
One person tweeted: "People finding out they put vinegar in red velvet cake is going to ruin red velvet cake for so many people. #GBBO." Another said: "Why would you even put vinegar in a cake?" A third added: "Honestly... I don't know either and likely never will. #GBBO."
Others simply exclaimed: "Vinegar in a cake??? #GBBO." Another said: "Vinegar! He’s not making that cake sound good! #gbbo."
