C.J. Stroud showed love to Justin Fields when explaining why he doesn’t the Bears to draft him: ‘That’s his team’

Say what you want about C.J. Stroud, but the guy seems like an absolutely fantastic friend to have in your corner. Justin Fields probably feels the same way today.

Stroud was being asked about the possibility of the Chicago Bears drafting him. Folks have been debating on whether the team should draft a quarterback for weeks now despite the team already having a young quarterback in hand with Fields.

The organization itself even said it will “investigate everything” when it comes to making their selection come draft time, with obviously no promises being made to Fields and his job security.

But CJ Stroud did his best to shut all of that down at the NFL Combine.

The future NFL QB was asked about potentially joining the Bears as their No. 1 pick and he took the time to show some love to Justin Fields while unequivocally saying he doesn’t want to play in Chicago.

I mean, nah. I don’t want to go there. I mean, that’s his team. I got to do my thing. I got to go build my legacy and I know he’s real to me. He texted me yesterday morning. Me and him are brothers for life.”

That’s a real friend, man.

Now, there’s nothing much Stroud can do if the Bears actually do take him with the No. 1 pick. He’s going to have to play in Chicago and Fields will just have to deal with it. But it’s certainly nice knowing that he respects his friend in this way.

Hopefully, it doesn’t come to that and the Bears do the right thing by building out the rest of their team around fields. But we’ll see. It’s the NFL draft — just about anything can happen.
