The No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft is now No. 1 in the history book for rookie quarterback performance. Texans top pick C.J. Stroud had himself a day in Houston’s 39-37 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Stroud set the NFL record for passing yards in a game by a rookie quarterback. He completed 30 of his 42 passes for 470 yards and five touchdowns in the Week 9 win. The last of those touchdowns was a game-winning strike to fellow rookie Tank Dell with under 10 seconds to play to seize an exciting victory for the 4-4 Texans.
Stroud’s incredible outing bests the previous record by the Colts’ Andrew Luck, who passed for 433 yards back in Week 9 of the 2012 season.
