BYU’s mascot somehow jumped a flaming rope while doing backflips

It’s always an important responsibility for a college football team’s mascot to get the crowd fired up, but BYU’s Cosmo Cougar took that task a bit too literally during the team’s Friday tilt with Cincinnati.

Cosmo decided to do backwards flips on a jump rope that was on fire on the sideline, which is absolutely one way to fulfill game day duties as a mascot.

Thankfully, Cosmo did all of the jumps in style and evaded the flames during the sideline routine. This was a risky endeavor, but we’re guessing the person in the mascot suit had plenty of practice before partaking in Friday’s act.

If you held your breath through that entire sequence, we don’t blame you. Cosmo came very close with the flaming jump rope multiple times during that stunt, but only the most flexible mascots can pull this off.

If we’re giving a “Mascot of the Week” award, it’s going to Cosmo.

Just be careful with your next stunts, Mr. Cougar!
