Byker Grove's Ant and Dec wanted for return on screen as PJ and Duncan as show rebooted

Ant and Dec might not just be behind the scenes for the reboot of Byker Grove, as one of the bosses in charge of the show's comeback is keen on the idea of them reprising their roles as PJ and Duncan.

There was great excitement on Tuesday when Ant and Dec took to Twitter to reveal that the show that shot them to huge TV fame in the 90s is coming back, with the presenters' company Mitre Studios teaming up with Sunderland's Fulwell73, the people responsible for Sunderland 'Til I Die and The Kardashians plotting up its return, with the lads as executive producers.

Over the moon to be bringing Byker Grove back, Dec said: "Byker Grove will always be very special to us as the show which gave us our break, so we are beyond excited to be working together with Fulwell 73 on bringing it back. We are looking forward to bringing this fresh incarnation to a whole new generation as well as those who remember it as fondly as we do. "

He added: "As proud Geordies, we’re looking forward to help shine a spotlight on the North East and the talent the region has to offer both in front of the camera and behind it."

Equally as enthusiastic, Ant said: "We owe such a lot to Byker Grove and the North East so we can’t wait to start working with Fulwell 73 and the team to bring this iconic series back to life. Already talking characters and storylines has us all buzzing at the possibilities ahead. The original series was the starting point for a lot of North East talent so we're excited to see what the new team will bring."

As well as being exc producers, Ant and Dec could also end up in front of the camera, if Fulwell73 boss Leo Pearlam has anything to do with it. He said: ""We're working hard on Ant and Dec to see what they're willing to do, whether they are willing to pop back in as PJ and Duncan. I'd love to have all those nostalgic elements being revisited."

Leo is also keen to bring back other faces from Byker Grove past, with the likes of Jill and Chelsea Halfpenny, Donna Air and Charlie Hunnam also starting their careers on the show.
