Speculation about what type of restaurant people would like to see fill a vacant shop in Beeston has thrown up some exotic choices, but a favourite British dish did not make the list.
A planning application proposing a new restaurant in Beeston has been submitted for a vacant building on 31 Wollaton Road.
Previously, the empty store was the Renaissance Fashion Agency, which sold second-hand designer clothing.
A wide range of choice already available nearby led to calls for something that would add to the area.
Steve Allock, 67, from Wollaton said he hoped that one of his favourite places elsewhere would make an appearance.
"There's a good variation of restaurants, there's Greek and curry houses locally," he said.
"I think the area will soon have more on the market but it's pretty well catered for. There's a good curry house near Chilwell so I'd say one here wouldn't hurt."
Mr Allock did, however, express concerns about parking.
"Parking may be a problem but there's a Sainsbury's across the road," he said.
Charlie Gills, 32 from Beeston, is an IT technician, and he also pointed out that for many, parking could be a problem.
"I think that's a hard question because there's a bit of everything in Beeston, wherever you are, there's always a restaurant that's never too far. I'd like to see something different but I don't know.
"My personal favourite is a Chinese but I always get it delivered so a nice Chinese restaurant like Maysum where you can sit in would be good but where would people park?"
Forty-year-old Cho Lukas cautiously welcomes the idea of a new restaurant.
"I don't mind a new restaurant but not many more restaurants are needed, there's the main street which has a lot of the same," said the self-employed worker from Nottingham.
"I'm not sure what I'd like to see, maybe an Indian restaurant but not a steak house or fish and chip shop, something different."
One resident, who chose not to be named said: "I like an Indian, we tend to go to Gurkha Express but we get it delivered. I'm not sure what I want to see in here if it wasn't a restaurant. We're very well supplied with hairdressers in Beeston and parking may be a problem but I'm not against plans a new restaurant."
A decision will be made on the application on March 15.
