The Butler County District Attorney recently spoke out regarding the security measures in place during a rally where former President Donald Trump was shot. The District Attorney, who oversees the county emergency service unit, clarified that his team was not assigned to guard outside during the event.
The emergency unit, comprised of officers from 23 municipalities, was present at the rally but did not have a designated presence outside the perimeter. According to the District Attorney, the responsibility for external security fell under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service.
During a statement on Tuesday, the District Attorney, Ronald Goldinger, emphasized that the Secret Service was in charge of ensuring all security protocols were followed correctly. He highlighted the importance of accountability and stated that pointing fingers at lower-level employees was not productive.
Goldinger stressed that the ultimate responsibility for security arrangements rested with the top leadership, in this case, the Secret Service. He likened the situation to a hierarchical structure where the 'buck stops at the top,' indicating that the highest-ranking officials should bear the brunt of accountability.
As investigations into the incident continue, the District Attorney's comments shed light on the division of responsibilities among different security agencies during high-profile events. The role of the Secret Service in overseeing security arrangements at rallies and public gatherings involving prominent figures remains a critical aspect of ensuring public safety.
