A busy Lanarkshire expressway will be closed later this month to allow for bridge inspections and investigation works.
The A725 northbound and southbound roads between A7071 near the Raith Junction and Shawhead Junction will shut overnight from February 21 until March 4.
Motorists are advised the closures will come into effect between 8pm and 6am while the work is carried out.
Locals driving from Hamilton and East Kilbride may be affected as well as those travelling from Bellshill.
However, the closures will be in place overnight to minimise any traffic disruption.
The works are planned to be undertaken in two phases as follows:
Phase 1 - Monday, February 21 to Friday, February 25 (and Monday, February 28 if necessary)
The A725 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between Shawhead Junction (North Road) and Raith Junction on slip road from Raith roundabout
As a result, the following link road and slip roads will also be closed:
- M8 westbound link road to A725 southbound at Junction 7A Shawhead
- A725 southbound Diamond Junction (James Street) off slip road
- A725 southbound Diamond Junction (James Street) on slip road
- A725 southbound Bellziehill Junction off slip road
- A725 southbound Bellziehill Junction on slip road
- A725 southbound Orbiston Junction off slip road
- A725 southbound Orbiston Junction on slip road
- A725 southbound Raith Junction off slip road to Raith roundabout and Strathclyde Country Park
Phase 2 - Monday, February 28 to Thursday, March 3 (and Friday, March 4 if necessary)
The A725 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight between A7071 near Raith Junction and Shawhead Junction (North Road)
As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:
- A725 northbound Raith Junction on slip road from Raith roundabout
- A725 northbound Orbiston Junction off slip road
- A725 northbound Orbiston Junction on slip road
- A725 northbound Bellziehill Junction off slip road
- A725 northbound Bellziehill Junction on slip road
- A725 northbound Diamond Junction (James Street) off slip road
- A725 northbound Strathclyde Business Park off slip road
The overnight closures have been phased to ensure only one carriageway, northbound or southbound, is closed at any given time, and a contingency night each phase has been included should adverse weather affect the schedule.
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential bridge inspections and carriageway investigation works are undertaken, and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic.
The road will reopen at 6am each morning.
Signed diversion routes will be in place for both motorway and non-motorway traffic.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route.
The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Amey South West Unit and the emergency services.
All works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
Locals are advised if they have any enquiries regarding these works, they should contact 0800 042 0188 or info@scotroadspartnership.co.uk
