Busy Gedling roads closed for sewage works with drivers 'turning around'

A busy junction in Gedling has been closed for sewage works - and drivers unaware have been turning back around. Jessops Lane has been closed south-east from the junction with Lambley Lane, while Lambley Lane has been closed either side of the junction.

Work is taking place on a new sewer connection with the closure of the junction in place from 7am on Monday, June 26, until 5pm on July 17. Officials from Hilliards Civils are carrying out the works on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.

Drivers have been told to use alternative routes, using Arnold Lane and the new Colliery Way.

On the first day of the closure of the junction, on Monday, some motorists were seen turning back, unaware of the closure. Adam Hall, 45 and of Gedling, said: “I live not too far from Jessops Lane and I was aware there would be roadworks happening.

"Jessops Lane and Lambley Lane are both long roads so the road is blocked off in quite a few areas. I've seen quite a few people U-turn back around, they obviously didn’t know the roads would be closed.”

Adam, who works in finance, continued: “It’s not an inconvenience for me but I’m sure it will be for other people. They end on July 17 which isn’t too bad though.”

Local resident and salon worker Anna Noel, 34, said: “It’s been much quieter this morning. I’ve seen a few cars turn back around but most people in the area would have known about the closures if there were alternative routes, it’s not like we’re all boxed in.”

Nurse Bryony Cox, 26 and from Gedling, added: “The roadworks haven’t affected me, I have tried to spread the word to people about the closures. There’s been no traffic or build up on the surrounding roads, the closures haven’t caused that much of a disturbance from what I can see.”
