A busy Edinburgh southside Farmfoods is set to close and be replaced by Specsavers.
A planning application has been lodged which would see the Nicolson Street branch be replaced by the eye specialists, although Farmfoods could be relocated elsewhere.
A design statement on behalf of the applicant states: "The unit is situated on the high street, neighboured by various other retailers. It is currently a retail unit, and following relocation works it will trade as Specsavers, remaining retail."

It is understood a major refurbishment will take place within the building at no 76 although all pedestrian and vehicular access will remain in place.
The statement adds: "The relationship between the buildings within and outside the application site will not change as a result of this application.
"The shop-fit refurbishment, new plant and the new external signage has been designed to match the existing, previous tenants’ installations, to give continuity. The store layout has been designed around the existing services, to avoid alteration."
The spacious ground floor of the five-storey building was previously advertised for rent online, with the exact reason for Farmfoods' decision to close their doors currently unknown.
