Businessman attacked by machete-wielding thugs in horror broad daylight attack

A businessman was savaged by machete-wielding thugs yesterday morning in a shocking daylight attack.

The victim, a male aged in his 40s, was repeatedly stabbed in a car park in the Finglas area of Dublin moments after leaving a local gym, reports the Irish Mirror.

He received serious injuries to the chest and face during the assault, and was later rushed to the city's Mater Hospital.

A number of local residents could be seen rushing to the victim's aid, with one photograph taken on the street showing them tending to his stab wounds as he sat on a chair.

Another taken a short time later captured the emergency response, with people in uniform surrounding him as he remained in the chair.

Large amounts of blood can be seen on his chest, and it was reported the man was still conscious following the attack.

One local source speaking to the Irish Mirror said: “It’s absolutely shocking, he was walking back to his car when he was attacked. This happened in the morning.

“There were lots of people going about their business where it happened. The attackers jumped out of a car and carried out the assault before fleeing the scene. People can’t believe it.”

Gardai cordoned off the scene yesterday and confirmed they were carrying out a technical examination.

No arrest have been made, and officers are now appealing for witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage taken on Finglas' Main Street to come forward.

A spokesman said: “No arrests have been made at this stage of this ongoing investigation.

“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Main Street area of Finglas between 10am and 11am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
