Business Week to celebrate 'getting back together' as Humber gears up for showcase events

Organisers of Humber Business Week say this year’s event is all about ‘getting back together’ as a business community to tackle the pressing issues, share knowledge and celebrate success.

Last year’s event was largely held online as the country emerged from the latest Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. 2020’s event had to be cancelled completely.

The programme for 2022 will be officially launched on Tuesday evening at Hull Truck Theatre, and Kath Lavery, chair of the volunteer-led steering group, said there is an excitement to see ‘Biz Week’ return to its roots, with networking very much part and parcel of the appeal.

“Humber Business Week has always been a week in the calendar to put a ring around in your diary as it offers the chance to get out from your usual place of work, be inspired by some great events, to hear from some very successful business people and to network with others across the Humber business community,” she said.

“Of course, for the past two years we have not been able to do that, and whilst last year’s online event went exceptionally well in the circumstances, we are all delighted to see Business Week returning to its roots, with some great events confirmed for this year’s programme.

“This year is all about getting back together. It’s a great opportunity to perhaps catch up with people you’ve not seen for a long time, to learn about one another’s businesses and how they’ve managed over the past two years, to explore opportunities to work together, to tackle the pressing issues, but most of all to share knowledge and celebrate success.”

Already confirmed for this year’s event – which runs from Monday, June 6 th to Friday, June 10 - is the always eagerly-anticipated Bondholders Breakfast Launch from Marketing Humber.

They are this year joining forces with marketing agency H&H to present ‘Talent on the Move’ – an event which will explore the very topical issue of recruitment, retention, and skills development in the world of blended working, flexible working and virtual workspaces.

Business Week founder Paul Sewell is also set to play a prominent role throughout the week, exploring how entrepreneurs ‘succeed in chaos’ alongside consultant David Hall and Rob Daysley, founder of Hull-based company Designs.

He is also bringing back his popular ‘Elevenses’ interview series on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Also part of the schedule again this year is the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce Expo and Speed Networking event, HullBid’s Inspiring Women Dinner and The Business Day at Bridlington Spa, at which Jo Malone CBE is headline speaker.

Mrs Lavery added: “It’s great to see the traditional Business Week events back in the schedule this year, but equally pleasing to see many events tackling the current issues facing all in business, such as managing change, the challenge of recruiting and retaining staff, climate change and the drive towards Net Zero and decarbonisation, and the ever-increasing influence and importance of social media.”

The Humber Business Week 2022 programme will be officially launched from 5pm tonight at Hull Truck Theatre. All are welcome to attend but are asked to register for the free event.
