Business evacuated after 'unknown white substance' delivered to it

A business in Clifton Village was evacuated last week after an 'unknown white substance' was delivered to it. Firefighters and police were called to the building on Friday, July 8 at around 1.13pm after the substance was discovered.

Samples of the substance were taken and tested, and the substance was determined to have been a non-hazardous white powder, according to an Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson. They added that no one was injured and no sicknesses have been reported.

The spokesperson did not disclose the name of the business, but an eyewitness told Bristol Live it was opposite Pod on The Mall. The eyewitness said they saw a full cordon around the business which was evacuated, and people in boiler suits reportedly set up a table to test something.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters and specialist hazardous materials officers remained on the scene liaising with police and ambulance colleague for some time before declaring the scene safe."
