Business Brief (July 6): China Moves to Rein In E-Cigarette Overcapacity

E-cigarette industry policy issued

The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration released a policy document for the e-cigarette industry, emphasizing the need to guide the industry to moderately concentrate in regions with existing industrial foundations.

The policy aims to strictly control new capacity and reasonably manage production scales to prevent overcapacity, while encouraging uncompetitive companies to exit the market in an orderly manner.

Cyberspace regulator targets livestreaming

The Cyberspace Administration of China is continuing its campaign to rectify chaos in online entertainment group livestreaming.

The focus is on tackling major issues including registration violations, stimulating tipping through inappropriate PK battles, vulgar livestreaming content and infringing on minors’ rights.
