Business Brief (July 17): China Spearheads World AI Cooperation Organization

An agreement to establish the World AI Cooperation Organization was signed Thursday in Shanghai, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi signing on behalf of the Chinese government.

The agreement defines the entity as an independent intergovernmental organization aimed at promoting international AI cooperation and global governance, ensuring the technology develops in a beneficial, safe and equitable direction.

Representatives from 29 countries, including Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan and Russia, signed the agreement to become founding members.
