Authorities have identified the seven passengers who died in a tragic bus accident last weekend in Mississippi. The bus, operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, was en route from Atlanta to Dallas when it overturned near Bovina, Mississippi on Saturday morning.
Mexico's Foreign Relations Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, confirmed that all seven victims were Mexican citizens. The deceased have been identified as Miguel Arriaga, 61; Victor A. Garcia, 32; Moises A. Garcia, 31; Kain Gutierrez, 8; Perla Gutierrez, 16; Elia Guzman, 63; and Angelica Palomino, 16.
Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey stated that Kain and Perla Gutierrez were siblings. They were identified by their mother. Moises and Victor García were also siblings, according to family members interviewed by Univision. Their final destination was their hometown of Texcaltitlán in the State of Mexico.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that the accident occurred when the bus's left front tire failed, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn onto its left side. The 2018 Volvo bus had 41 passengers and two drivers on board. Six victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a seventh succumbed to injuries at a hospital. An additional 36 passengers were injured and transported to local hospitals.

Todd Inman, a member of the NTSB, stated that the investigation will examine the bus's condition, including the maintenance of its tires, the driver's experience, road conditions at the time of the crash, and the overall safety record of Autobuses Regiomontanos. The NTSB expects to release a preliminary report within 30 days, with a full investigation potentially taking up to two years.
