Bus Eireann passenger complains 'smell was unreal' after sitting beside barefoot man

Bus Eireann has vowed to look into one man's complaint after sitting beside a barefoot passenger.

The incident happened on a service from Cork city to Bishopstown on Thursday morning.

An early-morning commuter reports sitting near someone who wasn't wearing shoes or socks, and choose to prop their bare feet on the seat opposite them for the entire duration of the journey.

Speaking to CorkBeo, the passenger said "the smell was unreal", adding how he "came close to saying something".

The experience left a lasting impression, with the man adding that he will be "avoiding the back seat of busses from now on" as there appears to be "a different culture there".

The offended man snapped a picture of the shoeless traveller. Posting about the incident online, he advised: "Please keep your shoes off the seats. If you can't, please keep your shoes and socks on."

A Bus Eireann spokesperson took note of the feet incident and promised that they would "pass this information on."

This is the latest incident of strange behaviour on public transport in Cork after an Irish Rail passenger reported something bemusing on their journey last month.

The traveller asked if shaving on board was okay after the woman sitting opposite her whipped out a razor and started trimming facial hairs while travelling.

The woman took to Twitter asking whether or not it is something people typically do.

She said: "I’m on a train to Cork. There’s a woman opposite me dry shaving her face. I’m okay with hair brushing most of the time.. but shaving?"

Etiquette while travelling is always a touchy subject, and there's always debate about what's acceptable and what's not.

Personal grooming is one of those where people can be conflicted, with many arguing it should be all be done somewhere else.
