On Monday, a devastating bus accident occurred on a highway in northeastern Egypt, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and leaving 33 others injured, according to a statement released by the health ministry.
The bus was carrying students from Galala University in Suez, who were returning from their classes to their dormitory in Ain Sokhna resort when the tragic incident took place. The driver of the bus has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash.
The exact cause of the accident has not been disclosed by the ministry at this time.
Following the crash, a swift response was initiated, with 28 ambulances rushing to the scene to transport the injured to the Suez Medical Complex. The health ministry, however, did not provide details on the current condition of the injured individuals.
Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, and Minister of High Education, Ayman Ashour, extended their condolences to the families of the students affected by this tragic event.
Egypt has long struggled with road safety issues, with thousands of lives lost each year in traffic accidents. Factors such as speeding, poor road conditions, and inadequate enforcement of traffic laws are often cited as contributing to the high number of collisions in the country.
