A van which was set on fire has finally been removed after the charred remains were left sitting on the street for two months. South Gloucestershire Council moved the vehicle from Filton Avenue after Bristol Live got in touch to ask why it was still in the same place.
Firefighters were called to the scene back in March after the van went up in flames on the residential street one Thursday morning. One resident said they heard a 'loud bang' in the area, while another claimed they could see black smoke billowing in the sky above the houses.
When they arrived, Avon Fire and Rescue Service found the van "well alight" and two other vehicles had been affected by heat damage - they determined the cause of the incident to be accidental and roads were closed while fire crews tackled the blaze.

Since then, the charred remains of the van have been left on the road for more than two months and were even recently tagged with graffiti. Despite some confusion as to whose responsibility it was to remove the van, as it sat close to the boundary between both Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council, it was determined that South Gloucestershire Council was responsible for ridding the residential area of the eyesore - but they told Bristol Live just days ago that it "may take some time yet".
A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council told Bristol Live: "We are aware of the burnt-out van on Filton Avenue and are in the process of arranging for a contractor to remove the vehicle. We are aiming for this to be done as soon as possible following confirmation of our contractor’s availability.”
As if by magic, those motorists driving along the almost 2.7 mile-long stretch of road have now noticed the van is no longer there.
