Police are investigating if a young man whose body was found after a house fire on the Gold Coast overnight was in a relationship with another man they have deemed to be a suspect.
A 21-year-old man's burnt body was found at a Coomera address late last night and police say they are treating the death as suspicious.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the property about 11pm after neighbours heard a smoke alarm and called triple-0.
Gold Coast Detective Acting Inspector Mark Procter said a 38-year-old man, who lives at the Coomera property, was considered a suspect and was assisting police with their inquiries.
He said the man had significant burns to his body and had attended a work colleague's house in Brisbane before being taken to hospital overnight with injuries.
The deceased man did not live at the Coomera property but lived nearby, according to police.
The men are believed to be "very well known to each other" but do not live together.
"They are certainly good friends and they're seen in places together which could suggest that [they were in a relationship] but we don’t know that," Acting Inspector Procter said.
Police said there was no history of violence "at all" between the pair.
Investigations are underway this morning with police setting up a crime scene at the Leichhardt Street address.
Road blocked off
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, the 38-year-old man was transported from a Sheldon property to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a stable condition overnight.
He suffered burns to his face and limbs "that were reportedly sustained at another location".
It is understood the Coomera property was not locked when emergency services arrived on scene and that the man assisting police in Brisbane was allegedly injured on the Gold Coast.
Officers are awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the deceased man's cause of death and confirm his identity.
Authorities have blocked off the road in the northern Gold Coast residential area, with a heavy presence of police and fire investigators at the scene, including the mobile forensic facility.
The fire was contained within the building overnight.
Police call for information
Gold Coast Detective Acting Inspector Mark Procter said police were calling for anyone who saw a blue ute leaving the Leichhardt Street address at 10.50pm last night to contact them.
"We are investigating the whereabouts of a blue Holden Commodore utility that left the premises … about 10.50pm," he said.
The senior Gold Coast criminal investigation branch officer asked anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicle or anyone who "noticed any unusual behaviour" in the area at that time on Wednesday evening to contact Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
