Match report: Leicester City 1-0 Leeds United

Premier League: Life after Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds does not look dull but for all the promise, fun and trademark buccaneering style, there was a painfully familiar outcome as Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge of the club ended in a slender defeat, writes Ben Fisher from the King Power Stadium.

Norwich City v Brentford: The big news from Carrow Road is that Christian Eriksen lines up for the Bees. It’s the Dane’s first start since suffering cardiac arrest during last summer’s Euros.

“Christian’s good,” said his manager Thomas Frank in his pre-match press conference. “He keeps progressing in terms of his fitness and getting good training minutes into him.”

Jesse Marsch speaks: “Even going into the match I felt the performance was more important than the points,” says the new Leeds manager in an interview with the BBC. “It is our first match together, we have had four days on the [training] pitch together and I’m pleased with how they controlled the match in all phases of the game, including set pieces. They have made so much progress in a short space of a time.”

Leicester City 1-0 Leeds United: “It’s always a tough game against Leeds,” says Leicester midfielder Harvey Barnes in an interview with BT Sport. “They had a new manager as well so we didn’t know how they were going to set up, but they still have the same intensity, it’s still end to and. A tough afternoon but delighted with the three points.

“The goal came at a good time for us. The first goal was always crucial. You don’t want to make it end-to-end against Leeds. You want to keep the ball and we didn’t do that for a lot of the afternoon, we made it into a basketball game.

“But we still created chances and defended well when we needed. It’s been an up and down season so far but the last few results and performances have been positive. We are showing signs of last season and results come from that.”

Championship: Fulham have extended their lead at the top of the Championship to 11 points in the wake of their 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers. Neeskens Kabano and Harry Wilson got the goals to give their side victory for the third consecutive game. Blackburn stay in fourth but have only one win in their past seven games.

Women’s Super League: Brighton have beaten Aston Villa 1-0 on the road, while Manchester United have prevailed over Leicester City, beating them 4-0 at Leigh Sports Village in today’s other WSL fixture.

Full time: Leicester City 1-0 Leeds United

Premier League: Leeds lose again, going down to a Harvey Barnes second half strike. It was a decent performance from the visitors but they remain in 16th place.

Leicester City 1-0 Leeds United latest: On as a substitute for Leeds United, Tyler Roberts has pulled a hamstring but remains on the pitch because Jesse Marsch has used all three of his substitutes.

It’s a weird situation, as Roberts is unable to run, can barely walk and has told his team-mates to stop passing him the ball. One suspects that the longer he stays out there making up the numbers, the worse his injury will get. Leicester remain in the lead by the only goal of the game.
