Burnley have two key injury doubts for Aston Villa as they look to extend lead over Leeds United

Leeds United's relegation rivals Burnley are set to make late injury calls on first team regulars Maxwel Cornet and Jay Rodriguez ahead of their Saturday home Premier League clash against Aston Villa. The Clarets have been in inspired form of late, producing three wins on the bounce under the stewardship of caretaker manager Mike Jackson.

Last time out, they pulled off an incredible 2-1 come from behind win against Watford, which saw them net twice in the final 10 minutes. The result pulled Burnley above Leeds United in the table, with Jackson's side now sitting in 16th place by virtue of having a vastly superior goal difference to the Whites.

And their Premier League survival hopes look set to be potentially bolstered with the return of Cornet and Rodriguez.

Cornet has been forced out of the last two matches with a knee injury, while Rodriguez was pulled from the starting line-up against Watford after picking up a hamstring injury in the warm-up.

Alongside them, Burnley will also be able to welcome back Erik Pieters back into the matchday squad. Club captain Ben Mee and Johann Berg Gudmundsson remain sidelined with doubts over whether they will feature again this season. However, the former is now back in light training, with Jackson providing an update on the Clarets skipper.

"Jay Rod still has a little bit of a hamstring issue," said Jackson. "Ben Mee's back on the grass and Ashley Westwood's had his [ankle] op so he's been around the lads.

"Erik Pieters is back on the grass and looking really good in training, and Maxwel Cornet is also back on the grass."

A win for Burnley in the Saturday 3pm kick off would see them open up a three-point gap on Leeds and a five-point advantage on Everton, ahead of the pair's 2pm kick offs on Sunday.
