Burnetts Solicitors expands into Northumberland as search launches for new city centre base

North East law firm Burnetts is expanding its regional presence with the opening of an office in Hexham and a senior appointment.

Burnetts Solicitors LLP has operated for more than a decade in Newcastle city centre, alongside locations in Carlisle and Cockermouth. Now the firm has launched a new office at The Beacon in Beaufront Park, Anick Road, to service clients in Northumberland and beyond.

The new office bridges the geographical area between the company’s presence in the North West and the North East, which it said gives clients access to legal expertise from both regions. The company specialises in a range of sectors, including agribusiness, banking and property finance and commercial litigation and property, as well as all areas of family and personal matters.

Richard Miller, chairman and agribusiness partner at Burnetts said: “With us having so much expertise in many of the areas that are relevant to the rural community, having a presence in Hexham seemed an obvious progression. The office will be serviced by our teams both in Carlisle and Newcastle, so we will be able to offer the full range of legal support, no matter what the issue. We are looking forward to becoming an important asset to the local community.”

The success of the firm’s banking team has also led to promotion for senior member Nicola Nutley, and plans to expand into a new city base. Ms Nutley has been with Burnett’s Newcastle office based at Dean Street for two years and has recently been appointed both partner and head of banking.

She will be helping with the continued growth of the banking and property finance services, which has seen the firm win clients around the UK, and is looking to recruit.

She added: “We recognised there was a gap in the North East for a firm with a dedicated banking team which could provide the full range of legal services to funder clients. That has helped us win business locally, but at the same time continue to expand our range of regional and national clients.

“We’ve grown to a team of 12 but we are definitely now looking for people with a property finance background to come and join us. The fast expansion of Burnetts means we are also starting to look at new premises for the Newcastle office, in the city centre, to meet with our growing needs.”
