A burglar has been convicted following a series of break-ins across the Stapleford and Trowell areas. Nottinghamshire Police arrested Kieran Ferris, aged 28, of Rockford Court, Stapleford, on Wednesday, May 24, following a number of break-ins.
Ferris stole two mountain bikes after breaking into a garage in Pasture Road, Stapleford, overnight between 11pm on May 20 and 6am on May 21. Both bikes were subsequently recovered. He also stole high-value gardening tools after breaking into an outbuilding, off the A609 in the Trowell area, on 16 May.
When officers arrested Ferris on May 24 he was also found with a stolen mountain bike which was taken after a garage was burgled off the A6007 Ilkeston Road, Stapleford, between May 19 and 20. Neighbourhood Inspector Mike Ebbins, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I have been very aware of our local residents' concerns around an increase in theft offences in this area.
"My team have been totally focused on identifying the suspect and putting a stop to this issue. I am pleased Ferris has been convicted of these offences and will now be held accountable for his actions.
“Burglary is a deeply upsetting and impactful crime which we don’t want anyone to fall victim to.
“Preventing and driving down burglary is a priority for the force and we want to do everything we can to stop burglaries from happening in the first place.
“We have increased patrols in affected areas to provide reassurance while we continue with our investigations, but we do need the public’s help to combat burglary.
“Now people are enjoying the warmer weather, it’s also a timely reminder to residents to think about their home security and to make sure their homes are kept secure at all times.
“Burglars are often opportunistic thieves, looking for the easiest way of getting into your home without being seen or disturbed.
“We can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure your front and back doors are kept locked, even when you’re in the house, and your windows are kept locked where possible to deter burglars.”
