A repentant burglar stole an Amazon parcel from a porch but gave it back after a chilling text from the owner.
Lee Sarkozi, 42, helped himself to an Amazon parcel he saw left on a porch in Horfield, Bristol.
He was left in fear when he was identified and threatened with having his fingers chopped off.
Sarkozi nicked a £14.99 desk fan and he was found after the resident shared front door camera footage via social media.
He was recognised and a relative of the victim tracked him down, BristolLive reports.
Sarkozi then received this chilling message: "Took me 10 mins to get your name and address. Looking forward to taking a finger for every parcel you took today. See you soon."
Sarkozi pleaded guilty to burglary in July last year. He appeared at Bristol Crown Court for sentence yesterday.
Judge Mark Horton jailed him for two years and five months, which included the activation of a previously suspended 24-week sentence.
The judge told Sarkozi: "It is quite clear it was not an opportunist.
"There was no physical break-in to the property and no normal features of a burglary search as the main body of the house. But it cannot be said it is not an invasion of the home."
Kenneth Bell, prosecuting, said after Sarkozi received the text message he replied with: "I'm so sorry, I returned the parcel wid £50 comp on the top box."
Sarkozi then returned the fan with the money, which was donated to charity, the court heard.
However, independent of all this, police tracked him down and arrested him. He accepted taking the parcel.
Mr Bell said Sarkozi was heavily convicted. Dwelling house burglaries in 2000 and 2012 meant he was a "three-strike" burglar eligible for a three-year jail term.
Matthew Comer, defending, urged the judge to impose a suspended jail term.
Mr Comer said a central part of his client's previous offending was substance abuse but he was at work and doing his best to live a life free from crime.
