It’s not just at games where Steve Cooper’s players have felt the support from Nottingham Forest fans.
Around the city, and even in one of the busiest train stations in the country, the Reds have been boosted by the backing they are receiving as they push for promotion. And defender Scott McKenna says that can make a difference in their final three games of the regular season.
Forest fan Simon Crosby posted on social media about bumping into McKenna at St Pancras station in London, following Tuesday night’s victory at Fulham. He wrote: “He spotted my Forest polo shirt and said Hello.. All I could do was shake his hand and say ‘thank you for being magnificent’. #youllneverbeatmckenna #nffc.”

That sentiment was appreciated by the man himself. The centre-back says Reds supporters can help make the difference, especially at this crucial stage of the campaign.
“When you’re going through a train station in London - the busiest city in the UK - and you see someone with a Forest top on, it would be wrong not to have a quick chat with them when they’ve given us so much support throughout the season. It was nice,” McKenna said.
“It’s not just in Nottingham you see the fans, they are all over. It was nice to have a chat with him.
“It makes a massive difference having their support. In the stadiums is where it can have the biggest impact, because it can drive us over the line whether it’s a tight game or a free-flowing one where we’ve scored two, three or four goals.
“But just having that engagement around the city inspires us to keep doing well. Hopefully we can keep making the fans happy.
“If you’re out in town for a coffee, the amount of people who come up to you and just wish you well, say they are loving watching us and that we’re bringing everyone together. Obviously we want to win football matches, but we want to do the other side as well.
“We want to continue, and hopefully grow, that as well. The older I’ve got it is something that is nice, putting a smile on people’s faces and seeing the impact we can have on their lives as well.”
