Two years ago, the Chicago Bulls committed to winning, ending their rebuild, and pushing their chips on the table in an attempt to push for the playoffs. Since then, they have just one playoff win to show for their efforts. Now, it’s time to start a new rebuild.
The current team simply isn’t good enough to win a championship, and the middle is the worst place to be in the NBA. Being a perennial playoff team could warrant bringing the same core back, but the Bulls aren’t even that. And based on recent rumors, it seems as though they may have come to that realization.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Bulls have begun contacting other teams in an attempt to gauge their interest in a Zach LaVine trade. A rebuild could be coming. With that in mind, here are the top five teams who could show an interest in LaVine this summer.
Bulls trade rumors: 5 teams who could want Zach LaVine this offseason: Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are going to go star hunting this summer. With Tyler Herro as trade bait, they are set to show an interest in both Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal. And if they’re interested in those two, they could show an interest in LaVine, especially if those deals don’t work out.
Bulls trade rumors: 5 teams who could want Zach LaVine this offseason: New York Knicks
Similar to the Heat with Tyler Herro, the New York Knicks have RJ Barrett to dangle about in the trade market. With Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle in place, the Knicks seem to be one primary scorer away from being a top-tier team in the East. Maybe LaVine can be that guy.
Bulls trade rumors: 5 teams who could want Zach LaVine this offseason: Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings have reportedly shown an interest in Bradley Beal, and if that’s the case, why wouldn’t they be intrigued by LaVine? He plays the same position, is nearly two years younger, and makes less money. Chicago would have to accept a picks-heavy package, but if they plan to rebuild, that’s okay.
Bulls trade rumors: 5 teams who could want Zach LaVine this offseason: Orlando Magic
It may seem odd to think about the Orlando Magic trading for LaVine, but if they feel ready to make a push forward, they have the assets to strike a deal. With Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Wendell Carter Jr. at the helm, they could put together a playoff team very quickly.
Bulls trade rumors: 5 teams who could want Zach LaVine this offseason: Minnesota Timberwolves
Perhaps the most eyebrow-raising option on this list, the Minnesota Timberwolves need a roster shake-up, and Karl-Anthony Towns trade rumors have swirled. Could a LaVine for Towns swap work? It’s not perfect, but with Rudy Gobert in the middle and Anthony Edwards on the wing, LaVine would probably be a better fit.
