Heading into the summer, the Chicago Bulls are in a tricky position, as they could use a rebuild, but that’s not their plan. Arturas Karnisovas has stated his lack of desire for a rebuild even though the team isn’t good enough to win a title, and without serious additions, they may not be good enough to guarantee a playoff spot.
Before the Bulls can concern themselves with adding to the roster, though, Chicago needs to figure out some internal decisions. Chicago’s point guard position is rough, and they need to add help, but first, they have to keep hold of their current point guards.
Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu both need new contracts, but during his post-NBA Draft press conference, Karnisovas said that the Bulls plan on giving both guards a qualifying offer, making them restricted free agents. He also had some kind words about both of them.
“Coby and Ayo I think they are developing young players,” Karnisovas said during his media availability via the Bulls’ official YouTube channel. “We’re gonna address that in free agency.”
Down the stretch of this past season, White showed a ton of potential, and if he continues to improve, he could develop into Chicago’s full-time starting point guard.
Meanwhile, Dosunmu’s sophomore season was a bit of a let-down, as he failed to show significant signs of improvement, but he’s still young and has plenty of time to grow.
Heading into next season, as both are set to recieve new contracts, White and Dosunmu will have to bring their A-game night in and night out.
