Bullock cart delivered fuel to Air India flight when J.R.D Tata was carrying airmail from Karachi to Bombay; he stopped to refuel at Ahmedabad on October 15, 1932

Air India's aviation story began with a journey that involved a small aircraft, airmail and a bullock cart carrying petrol cans. On October 15, 1932, J.R.D. Tata piloted a De Havilland Puss Moth from Karachi to Ahmedabad and then Bombay, carrying mail as part of Tata Sons' newly launched aviation service.

During a stop in Ahmedabad, the aircraft needed fuel. Petrol was brought to it in four-gallon cans on a bullock cart, a detail that captures how different early aviation operations were from those of modern airlines.
