India is moving closer to building and operating its own high-speed train, marking a significant step in the country’s ambitions to develop a domestic bullet train manufacturing ecosystem.
Nearly a decade after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project was launched in 2017, Indian Railways is working towards rolling out an indigenously designed and developed high-speed train. The first prototype is expected to be ready by March 2027 and will subsequently undergo extensive testing by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO).
