Bukayo Saka gives Kylian Mbappe claim verdict ahead of England vs France World Cup clash

England star Bukayo Saka has said there is only one Kylian Mbappe in response to being asked whether he is England's own version of the French superstar. France and England both won their last-16 matches against Poland and Senegal, setting up a quarter final meeting between the two footballing powerhouses.

Mbappe netted a brace in France's 3-1 win over Poland with the Paris Saint-Germain forward also setting up Olivier Giroud who scored the opening goal overtaking Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the all-time French top goal scorer with 52 goals.

England also put in a fine display dispatching of African champions Senegal scoring three goals without reply. Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Saka were all on the scoresheet with Jordan Pickford rarely troubled in the Three Lions goal.

The Everton star has only conceded two goals all tournament with both coming in the group stage opener against Iran, but he will undoubtedly face his toughest task against Mbappe and France.

France have scored nine goals in four games so far, with their defeat against Tunisia, where Didier Deschamps made nine changes, their only blank. But England have 12 goals from four matches, currently placing them as the highest scorers at the World Cup.

Mbappe has been France's shining light with Giroud also in amongst the goals, for England, Saka has been one of a number of those impressing in attack. Mbappe may have one more goal than Saka but the duo certainly have similar traits, although Saka provided a straight answer when posed with the question over whether he is England's own Mbappe.

Saka said: "Thanks, but no. I think there's only one Mbappe - and only one me. I just want to help my team. There's a lot of young players doing well, including in our team. The priority is to win the tournament, not player of the tournament, or young player of the tournament."

England are perhaps yet to face a significant test but they will certainly encounter one in the quarter final as France look to retain their crown and thus become the first team to do so since Brazil's back-to-back wins in 1958 and 1962.

Saka was quick to praise the French team but insisted that England also have plenty of talented players and although France won the World Cup 2018 and reached the final of Euro 2016, the Three Lions also have experience in the latter stages of tournaments.

"We've followed them and we see the quality they have. It's going to be an exciting game," he said. "Obviously we know the quality they have, but we know our own quality also. We just have to play our best game.'

The Arsenal winger added: "I think of course this [England] team has a lot players that have played in big tournaments - a lot of tournament experience. The last few tournaments we've done well.

"When the big games come we have a lot of players that know what they need to do."
