Bukayo Saka gives Gabriel Jesus injury verdict with Arsenal team-mate ruled out of World Cup

Bukayo Saka has extended his concern for Arsenal team-mate Gabriel Jesus suffered a knee injury in Brazil's final group stage match against Cameroon. Jesus was replaced just after the hour mark and football.london understands the Arsenal man will miss the remainder of the World Cup through injury.

Gabriel Martinelli and Jesus both started Brazil's match with Cameroon as Tite made 10 changes to the Brazil side that secured qualification in their second group fixture against Switzerland. Martinelli was particularly impressive despite Vincent Aboubakar scoring the game-winning goal for Cameroon in stoppage time.

Tottenham star Richarlison had been preferred to Jesus in Brazil's opening two games with the Gunners man forced to settle for cameo appearances from the bench before being given a start with his country already guaranteed a knockout stage spot after winning their first two matches.

The injury to Jesus did not appear to be too serious at first, but the 25-year-old is set to see a knee specialist and there could be further damage to the knee that wasn't first apparent. Should the injury be worse than first expected, it may prompt Edu to look into the transfer market for a quick fix.

Eddie Nketiah was able to handle the burden towards the end of last season when he was the only fit striker in the squad with five goals in the last seven games of the campaign including braces against Chelsea and Leeds.

The arrival of Jesus in the summer pushed Nketiah to the bench with the former Man City man forming a lethal attacking quarter with Martin Odegaard, Martinelli and Saka. The latter has now spoken out on the injury suffered by Jesus and he will certainly be hoping it does not keep him out of Arsenal's return to Premier League action on Boxing Day.

Saka said: "He's a very, very, very important player for us. It's not good to hear the news, obviously I've messaged him. I think he's going to go and see the doctor and see what he needs to do for the next steps. But it was definitely not good news when I heard that."
