Buffalo Bills mourn ‘unthinkable tragedy’ as star Ed Oliver’s son drowns

  • The Buffalo Bills have confirmed the death of defensive tackle Ed Oliver's two-year-old son , who reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at the family's home in Texas on 28 June.
  • Bills general manager Brandon Beane offered public condolences on behalf of the team, describing the loss as an “unthinkable tragedy” for any parent.
  • Oliver did not travel with the team for their preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, with his family asking the public for privacy and prayers.
  • The Harris County Sheriff's Office said that the toddler was found unresponsive in the pool and pronounced dead at a hospital, with an investigation still open.
  • Oliver was selected as a first-round draft pick by the Bills in 2019 and signed a four-year contract extension worth up to $68 million in 2023.
