Budget airlines have slashed fares to as little as £22 over the Easter holidays to tempt the Covid -weary nation to grab a break in the sun.
And they’ve put on extra flights in the hope demand will soar after all travel testing for fully vaccinated passengers was scrapped this month.
The move comes amid industry fears the cost-of-living crisis and the Ukraine invasion will hit foreign holiday bookings.
Now Ryanair is selling Easter Saturday flights from Newcastle to Menorca in Spain for just £22, while easyJet has fares from Stansted to Majorca for as little as £27.
Other bargains include Stansted to Kalamata, Greece, with Ryanair for £25 and Wizz Air fares from Gatwick to Sicily costing £32. Meanwhile Jet2.com has Easter Saturday flights from Bristol to Faro, Portugul, starting at £51 one way.
Airline comparison site Skyscanner says prices could remain low for months.
A spokeswoman said: “People booked months ahead pre-pandemic. Now they are thinking about travel in a short-term way.”
More than two million flew abroad in Easter 2019.
The Association of British Travel Agents said 2022 won’t touch that but added: “We expect more people making plans to get away. The picture looks positive.”
Jet2Holidays has added 80 extra flights for the spring and Easter bank holidays.
Boss Steve Heapy said: “We anticipate a huge getaway to the sun.”
