Budget 2022: India to post 9.2% GDP growth, highest among all economies, says FM Sitharaman

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that India's GDP growth will be highest amongst all economy while presenting the Union Budget 2022-23 in Parliament.

Sitharaman noted that India will report an economic growth of 9.2 per cent for FY22.

She further said that the speed in the coverage of vaccination has helped in economic recovery.

This is in line with the GDP number estimated by National Statistical Office (NSO) in its first advanced estimates released last month.

India's economy contracted by 6.6 per cent in FY21, in wake of two successive quarters of negative growth.

With administration of Covid vaccines and gradual reduction in Covid cases, economic recovery started picking pace and India reported highest ever quarterly GDP at 20.1 per cent in Q1 of FY22.

The Economic Survey 2022 released on January 31 also projected India to grow at 9.2 per cent for FY22 and at 8-5.5 per cent for FY23.
