The new horror-comedy Buddy has sparked a wave of online debate after some parents allegedly mistook its brightly coloured, children's TV aesthetic for something suitable for younger viewers. Marketed around Buddy, a cheerful orange unicorn who appears to host a nostalgic 1990s-style children's programme, the film quickly takes a much darker turn, with violence, blood and children placed in terrifying situations.
The backlash has centred on the film's deliberately misleading-looking premise, with viewers comparing the character to Barney & Friends and joking that it is essentially 'Barney, but make it horror.'
