Bud Cauley Claims Emotional RBC Canadian Open Victory

In a thrilling final day, it was Bud Cauley who secured the win, as the American claimed a maiden PGA Tour title on his 239th start.

Firing a five-under 65, it was the back nine on Sunday that proved to be the difference for the American, as his putter fired and birdies fell for a two stroke victory.

The win was an emotional one for Cauley. Back in 2018, he suffered five broken ribs, a broken left leg and a collapsed lung due to a car crash, with his return to professional golf not coming until 2024.

Prior to the start of the final round, Jackson Suber led the field and, although he held his advantage throughout the front nine, it was the back nine where the momentum swung.

Birdieing the eighth, three birdies on the bounce from the 11th, 12th and 13th was the catalyst for Cauley to push on, as a birdie at the 15th moved him four strokes clear with just three holes remaining.

Matt Fitzpatrick, who holds three wins in 2026, set the target at 15-under, but his total was a few shots shy, with Cauley finishing par-bogey-par to fire a 17-under total.

Earning a two shot win, a visibly emotional Cauley stated: "So many people helped me get here and I'm really thankful for the help that I have got over the years.

"Once I got the opportunity to start playing again I just told myself that I'm going to try and do everything the right way and give myself the best chance.

"I put my wife, Christie, through so much during those dark times and I hope this success is a bit of a thank you."

BACK NINE BOUND

This is set-up to be a thrilling finish, with three players sharing the lead and some big names in pursuit!

As of writing, Jimmy Stanger, Jackson Suber and Bud Cauley are the leaders at 14-under, while Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood are some of the big names chasing.

It could go any way right now, so strap in for the next few hours of action!

FANTASTIC MR FOX

SUBER LEADS

He may have bogeyed the ninth, but Suber bounces back excellently at the 10th, with a birdie putt dropping from 15-foot.

The American birdies the hardest hole on the course and moves to 15-under.

LOVELY PUTT

15 IS THE NUMBER

Stanger moves to 15-under, while Cauley plays a gorgeous tee shot at the par 3 11th that finishes four-foot from the flag. He will have that to move into a share of the lead.

CAULEY CONVERTS

His tee shot deserved the birdie and, at the par 3 11th, Cauley converts his attempt to join Suber and Stanger at 15-under.

PUTTS GALORE

FITZY MAKING A HUGE MOVE

He's already won three times this year, and Fitzpatrick isn't giving up, as he pitches in for a third birdie in four holes!

The Englishman birdied the 11th and 13th, with Fitzpatrick chipping in at the par 3 14th to move to 14-under. A fourth win could be in sight...

ANOTHER CHIP IN

Unreal short game on display in Toronto, as Cauley chips in at the par 4 12th to move into the outright lead at 16-under.

He's searching for a first win on the PGA Tour, and that could be a pivotal moment for the American!

FITZY MAGIC

HOVLAND NOT GIVING IN

He's not giving up and, at the 15th, Hovland holes a lengthy putt to move to 13-under, three back of Cauley who is in the right rough at the 13th.

MISTAKE FROM STANGER

He comes up short at the par 3 14th and, with a plugged lie in the bunker, Stanger splashes out to 20-foot.

Needing to hole the putt to remain at 15-under, the American's effort slides by and he drops back to 14-under.

CHIP IN CAULEY

CHASING PACK

Defending champion, Ryan Fox, puts it close at the par 4 15th and converts to move to 13-under.

Along with Fox, Fleetwood nearly aces the par 3 14th, with his birdie moving him to 11-under.

Cauley, meanwhile, hits a great shot at the par 4 13th and leaves a good chance for birdie to extend his lead.

HE CAN'T MISS

That's four birdies in six holes for Cauley, who has birdied three in a row at the 11th, 12th and 13th.

His birdie attempt at the par 4 never looked anywhere else, with the American moving to 17-under and two clear of Suber at 15-under.

RED HOT PUTTER

NEAR MISS FROM CAULEY... WHO EXTENDS HIS LEAD

After a good approach at the par 3 14th, Cauley narrowly misses his birdie attempt, with the American tapping in for par to remain at 17-under.

In his group, Wyndham Clark birdies to move to 12-under, while Suber three putts and drops back to 14-under.

Cauley leads by three strokes with four holes remaining.

SUBER DROPS A SHOT

He seemed in control early on but, at the 13th and 14th, Suber makes back-to-back bogeys to fall to 13-under.

ARE YOU KIDDING?

This is so impressive from Cauley!

His putter has been on fire and, at the 15th, Cauley rolls in an excellent birdie putt to move to 18-under, four clear of the nearest challengers.

The putter has been incredible on the back nine, with the American cruising towards the title.

FLAT STICK ON FIRE

WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?

Winning isn't easy... as shown by the leader!

Cauley has been in cruise control, but at the 16th he blasts his tee shot miles right and into trouble.

HE GETS AWAY WITH IT

Huge break for Cauley at the 16th!

It seemed that his golf ball was destined for the wasteland, but it somehow kicks left and ends up in the second cut.

What's more, he takes full advantage, playing a gorgeous shot that finishes 20-foot from the flag.

He's riding his luck, but Cauley is making the most of it right now!

CLUBHOUSE TARGET

Fitzpatrick fires a six-under 64, thanks to a closing eagle, and sets the clubhouse target at 15-under-par.

It will, likely, not be enough, but it's yet another great week for the Englishman, who will take some serious momentum into the US Open next week.

BUNKER FOUND FOR CAULEY

Having found the fairway with his tee shot, Cauley comes up short with his approach. It's in the bunker, and the lie is unclear.

GREAT TITLE DEFENCE FROM FOX

Fox claimed the title last year and, with his title defense, he hasn't let himself down, as a two-under 68 puts him inside the top 10.

SO GOOD FROM BUD

After finding the bunker with his approach, Cauley is plugged in the sand but that doesn't phase him.

Faced with a tough bunker shot, the American plays a delicate third that comes out the sand and rolls to eight-foot. Excellent golf from Cauley.

DROPPED SHOT FROM CAULEY

Following his bunker shot, Cauley leaves his par attempt on the lip and that's his first dropped shot of the back nine.

He falls to 17-under and leads by two going down the 72nd hole.

BEST PERFORMING CANADIAN

Sudarshan Yellamaraju's excellent 2026 continues, with the 24-year-old claiming the Rivermead Cup and the best performing Canadian at the RBC Canadian Open.

ROUGH FOUND FROM THE TEE

Cauley pushes his tee shot right at the 18th and that will be a lay-up for the leader.

WHAT A SHOT FROM CAULEY

It was an awkward lie, and stance, but that's an excellent shot from the leader, who moves the ball 130-yards or so down the fairway.

He may have lost his footing, but that's excellent from Cauley, who leaves himself 120-yards into the flag.

JOB DONE

Excellent from Cauley, who fires his wedge into the heart of the green, with it rolling back to 25-foot. He will have multiple putts to win a maiden PGA Tour title!
