The NFC South is going back to its roots this season. The Atlanta Falcons are set to wear their throwback uniforms with the old-school red helmets when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5.
On Tuesday, the Buccanneers decided to return the favor, announcing the return of the “Spirit of ’79” creamsicle jerseys for their Week 8 matchup against the Falcons. While some fans love Tampa Bay’s throwback orange-and-white uniform combo, others negatively associate the jerseys with the poor Bucs teams of the past.

The NFC South hasn’t been the most exciting division in recent years, so maybe these throwback uniforms will liven things up a bit. The Buccaneers have won three straight NFC South championships while the Falcons haven’t taken home a division title since their Super Bowl run in 2016.
Tampa Bay and Atlanta split their season series in 2023. After signing quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Falcons are expected to make a serious push for the division this season. However, Baker Mayfield and the Bucs may not be willing to hand over the reins so easily.
After years of underachievement, the 2024 season is setting up to be a fun one for the Falcons.
