Customers of BT and the companies it owns are facing some big increases to their bills in the months to come. The company's chief executive, Philip Jansen, has said that price rises would "absolutely" go ahead in April.
According to the Daily Telegraph, he blamed rising costs and a "challenging" economic environment. BT contracts include annual price increases measured by January's Consumer Price Index rate of inflation, plus 3.9%.
With the Bank of England and analysts predicting inflation will stay high in the months to come and be around 9% at the start of 2023, customers' packages are set to rise by around 13%. That would add about £53 a year to the cost of a BT Fibre Essential deal, which includes internet and phone at £33.99 per month currently.
