Bryson DeChambeau has once again been left eating his words at Augusta National, after missing the Masters cut for the second successive year.
Back in 2020, a brazen DeChambeau made headlines after claiming he could play the Augusta setup as a par 67 course, rather than its usual 72. Even by the former US Open champion's standards, the comments raised eyebrows.
Speaking just a month after his maiden major victory at Winged Foot two years ago, a confident DeChambeau said: "I'm looking at it as a par-67 for me because I can reach all the par-5s in 2, no problem."
Two years on, the 29-year-old was left ruing his comments after missing the weekend cut, shooting a a torrid 12-over-par across his two rounds. And it seems the fairways of Augusta do not forget, as 12 months later the American failed to make the weekend once more.
DeChambeau was among 18 LIV Golf stars returning to the PGA Tour for this week's opening major, and was no doubt keen to make his mark upon his controversial comeback. And whilst many did - including the 29-year-old's former arch rival Brooks Koepka who led after 36 holes - the same could not be said about DeChambeau.
The American endured a disastrous start, double bogeying his opening hole of the tournament, and this was seemingly a sign of things to come. Despite an eagle three at the 15th, two bogeys at 10 and 12 saw DeChambeau card a disappointing 74 on day one.
And things did not get much better 24 hours later, as he matched his opening round 74 on Friday to leave him at four-over for the tournament, one shot away from making the cut. In the build up to this week's event, DeChambeau addressed the comments he had made two years prior.

"Do I regret? Everybody has a perspective on it," he said. "I don't think I regret anything. What I do understand is that I have a lot of respect for the course. Because of that statement, [people] think I don't have respect for the course. Are you kidding me?
"This is one of the greatest golf courses in the entire world, and if anybody thinks I don't have respect for the course, they'd better go check out who I actually am, because it's not accurate one bit. Hypothetically, theoretically, look, if you make 18 birdies, it's going to be 54, right?
"It's a perfect score, right? Unattainable; 67 every day, unattainable. It can happen, but is it likely to happen? Probably not. With the distance I'm hitting it and was hitting it, I thought there was a possibility, but that's only with your A-game, and I should have rephrased that. If you have your A-game, there's a good chance of being able to do that."
