Brydon Carse: Police drop investigation into alleged assault at Derby nightclub

  • Derbyshire Police have closed an investigation into an alleged assault involving England bowler Brydon Carse at a Derby city centre nightclub on 23 August, confirming that he will face no criminal charges.
  • The cricketer was initially handcuffed on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly during a night out with his Durham team-mates, before being “de-arrested” after agreeing to leave the venue and providing his details to officers.
  • Enquiries into the alleged assault at Molly Malones concluded with no further action taken after police identified and interviewed the alleged victim.
  • Despite avoiding criminal charges, Carse could still face disciplinary measures as the independent Cricket Regulator reviews the incident to determine if conduct rules were breached.
  • Carse was subsequently omitted from recent England Test and white-ball squads, with head coach Brendon McCullum urging him to make better off-field choices to push for future selection.
