When you’re going through a rough patch, it’s nice to have somebody to lean on. And luckily for Bryce Young, he’s had quite a few somebodies.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback spoke with reporters on Wednesday, just ahead of the team’s Week 15 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. He was asked if by ESPN’s David Newton if anybody has reached out to him, or vice versa, during what has been a particularly frustrating rookie campaign.
“Yeah, there’s been a lot of people,” Young replied. “From coaches to players, obviously, to family that I’ve leaned on as well through it. But being able to just go through this—again, we’re all in the same boat in this building. Coaching staff, front office, players—we’re all on the same boat. We all give our all, we’re all not getting the result we want and we’re all trying to weather that and overcome it. So I’ve been super grateful for people who have reached out and had conversations with. And they know who they are.”
But can we know who they are?
Newton then followed up by asking Young to drop a few names.
“It’s a pretty long list,” he replied with a smile. “If I mention a couple, I’ll be forgetting more. So, I prefer not to.”
Young has had as tough of a time as you could imagine up. Through 12 starts, the No. 1 overall pick has averaged just 182.7 passing yards per game, has thrown only nine touchdowns and has been sacked a whopping 48 times.
Oh, and in the most important stat of all, his team is 1-12.
So, unfortunately, that’s another pretty long list he’s had to deal with.
