Bryan Gil sends timely message to Antonio Conte ahead of Tottenham pre-season training return

Bryan Gil is putting in the work ahead of his return to Tottenham pre-season training. Signed from Sevilla last July in a deal that saw Erik Lamela head to the La Liga club, Gil returned to Spain back in January with Valencia after struggling for regular minutes in north London.

Speaking in a press conference about the 21-year-old a few days after his exit, Antonio Conte made it clear that the attacker is a really good player but he needs players who are physically ready for the demands of the Premier League so they can play a part in his Spurs squad. Having linked up with Valencia at the end of January, Gil opened up on his first few months in the Premier League and outlined how tough he had found it in terms of adapting to the physicality of the league.

"In the Premier League, training sessions are very physical, very hard, and it has helped me not to notice fatigue now," he explained to Spanish publication AS. "It is very noticeable, really. It is a slightly higher level of intensity. I physically noticed it. The adaptation for me was difficult. It is a very physical football, back and forth. Being there has been good for me. I am more mature.

"I changed habits like eating, I had a chef at home and I gained two kilos. Even so, I noticed that it was not enough for the physical level that exists in the Premier League."

Featuring in 17 games for Valencia as he played a part in them reaching the Copa del Rey final, Gil will return to Hotspur Way at the start of July as Spurs begin their pre-season preparations. Conte will take a good look at the attacker over the course of pre-season and then make a decision on what comes next for the player.

Certainly needing to bulk up to help cope with life in the Premier League, Gil is putting in the work in the gym back in his homeland prior to returning to the club's Enfield training base next month. Taking to his Instagram Stories on Monday, the Spain U21 international added a picture of himself sitting in the gym and it featured a flexed bicep emoji and one of a weightlifter.

Gil's work away from Hotspur Way will go down incredibly well with Conte and the rest of his backroom team as the player is doing what is needed to help him ahead of a big 2022/23 campaign. Once he returns to the capital then Gil will be looking to catch the eye in the team's pre-season friendlies against Team K League, his former side Sevilla, Rangers and Roma.
