Bryan Fuller gives us hope for more of his most beloved series: “We’re working on a season 3” [EXCLUSIVE]

Bryan Fuller just gave us hope for his most beloved series’ return! The Mary Sue’s Rachel Leishman talked to the director about Pushing Daisies during the press tour for Dust Bunny. During our interview, we had to ask about the crushing cancellation of the beloved ABC comedy/drama. It seems like Pushing Daisies has been on Fuller’s mind just like it had been on ours. We weren’t expecting an immediate update on Season 3, but sometimes the Holidays can hold a lot of surprises. Check out what he said below.

Fuller told us, “Well, we’re working on a Season 3, and the whole cast wants to come back. And, we’ve got a whole story. We’re trying to do another season this year.”

For starters, this is amazing news. Seeing Lee Pace back as Ned the Piemaker would be absolutely thrilling. It’s wild to think about how many different TV shows have had a revival over the last five years and we’ve had to wait this long for Pushing Daisies to reemerge.

Nothing on television looked quite like Pushing Daisies at its height. Especially not on ABC’s programming, for that matter. The most exciting part of this reveal might be the fact that they’ve already had story ideas for Season 3. It seems too often that these kinds of revivals are just kind of picked up without a larger idea to bind them together. But, Fuller seems to have his bases covered in that regard.

Pushing Daisies Season 3 is on the way?

Pushing Daisies had another moment in the sun in 2020. While we were all inside, the cast and crew of the show decided to tweet along with the fans during a rewatch. Maybe we can expect some of these developments to come about in a possible season 3? If so, go ahead and count us in before they shoot a frame of this thing. There’s so much more for this world than we got to see.

Fuller’s 2020 tweets about Pushing Daisies live rent-free in our heads. Like this one from March of that year? He typed, “ The morgue attendant was in love with Emerson Cod which would have been further explored had the show continued.” I mean come on folks, we need to get back to the Pie Hole and resolve this stuff!

Leishman kind of summed it up beautifully shortly after the tweet along event. She wrote, “I’m just upset that we had something so precious and just … let it go. I don’t think that I’ll ever get over Pushing Daisies being canceled.”

“It was original, cute, ahead of its time (quite literally), and taught us that love doesn’t have to be about human touch, but rather, about how much we care for someone, and right now, in the time of corona, that’s an extremely important message to remember,” Leishman concluded.

Dust Bunny rolls into theaters on December 12 from Lionsgate Films. We’ll have even more from Bryan Fuller and Mads Mikkelsen in the coming days!
