Brute who attacked ex-partner at her Lanarkshire home is jailed

A brute who attacked his former partner after kicking in the door of her Blantyre home has been jailed for 16 months.

Brian Khan accepted he'd put his victim through a "terrifying" ordeal.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard he pinned down the woman on a bed and choked her.

Khan, 29, admitted charges of breaking into the property, assault and abusive or threatening behaviour following the incident in Waverley Terrace, Blantyre, in October 2020.

The victim heard a noise from the letterbox during the evening and Khan shouting 'I'm here'.

Scott O'Connor, prosecuting, said: "He entered the property after having two or three kicks at the door.

"Khan went upstairs and said 'I told you I was coming for you'. The woman asked him to leave, but he refused and started to shout and swear.

"He punched the bedroom door, making a hole in it.

"She closed the door and tried to hold it shut, but the accused continued to punch it, causing further damage.

"He entered the bedroom and struck his former partner with the back of his hand, causing her to fall back on the bed.

"The accused then pinned her down with his knee, seized her by the throat and choked her for a period of time.

"She managed to break free but he thereafter struck her on the head and body."

At one point she managed to dial 999 and police officers arrived at the house.

Khan told them 'Just jail me. Cuff me and take me away. I've done it all. Whatever she says, I've done it'.

The woman suffered an injury during the attack.

Defence agent Raymond McIlwham said the couple have two children but the relationship is now over and Khan's new partner is expecting a baby next year.

He had been living in England for a period but is back in the Hamilton area and is a carer for his mother.

Mr McIlwham added: "It's a very serious matter and he accepts responsibility, and that's not always the case with crimes of this nature.

"He knows it must have been a terrifying ordeal for the complainer."

Sheriff Linda Nicolson jailed Khan for 70 weeks and imposed a non-harassment order, preventing him from having any contact with his ex-partner for three years.
