Bruno Guimaraes has backed Eddie Howe to become England manager in the future after labelling him the 'best manager' he's worked under. The Newcastle United boss remains the bookies' favourite to land the Three Lions role next despite Gareth Southgate pledging to stay in position until 2024.
Howe recently insisted he was fully committed to remaining at St James' Park as doubts swirled over the future of Southgate. However, Bruno believes his current boss will one day accept the position to lead his country into a major tournament.
“Eddie is a good guy, and a good manager,” he told William Hill as he collected his award for North East FWA Player of the Year award. “He’s the best manager that I’ve had during my football career, so I’m so thankful for what he’s teaching me and the boys.

"What he is doing at the club is amazing. He’s a good guy and I’m sure one day he’ll be the manager of England.”
England's World Cup exit at the quarter-finals stage saw Southgate's future launched up into the air last December. The former Middlesbrough boss took his time when deciding whether to remain in post before eventually opting to lead the team into the 2024 European Championships.
During the period of uncertainty it was Howe and Chelsea boss Graham Potter heavily linked as potential replacements, prompting a passionate response from the Newcastle manager.
“Gareth has done an incredible job and I mean that from the bottom of my heart," Howe told reporters when asked about the speculation. "I have been lucky enough to go in and see him work and I have a lot of time for him and Steve Holland. They have been amazing for England. You have to remember where England were before he took over and what he has done for the country.

“I never say never, never say no, it won’t be something I am interested in. But in the short term it is not on my radar at all. It is all Newcastle and trying to make this team better. I have always said I love the day to day coaching, love being with the players on the training ground, international football you get that taken away for long periods. At this moment in my life that is not something I want to do.”
