Bruno Fernandes insisted Manchester United “need more” than just the Carabao Cup after their final win over Newcastle.
A Casemiro header followed by an own goal from Sven Botman put Man United in charge at the break, and it proved enough for a 2-0 win at Wembley and a first trophy for the club since 2017.
It’s a big moment for Erik ten Hag, his first piece of silverware since taking charge, and there could be more to come this season. His side are in the last-16 of the Europa League after knocking out Barcelona, have a fifth-round FA Cup clash against West Ham to come and are not yet out of the Premier League title race.
Speaking after the match, Fernandes admitted his relief at finally getting his hands on a trophy, but demanded that the club push on and ensure it does not prove to be a one-off.
“An amazing feeling, we have been searching for this moment,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “Us, the fans, the club, all together. Finally we get our trophy, I think deservedly.
“It’s been an amazing period obviously. First trophy of the season, but we want more. This is not enough for this club. We want more and we need more, because our standards demand more.
“For me, it’s about winning trophies. Finally we did it, and I am satisfied now because finally I get my trophy. But I want more, much more.”
